I have a saying, just because you walk in a church, it does not mean you are a Christian, just like if you stand in a garage does not make you a car! So what does it mean to be a real committed Christian? Have you accepted the Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior? Are you born again? We are all sinners in the need of a Savior.
Romans 3:23 (NKJV)
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
John 9:31 (NKJV)
31 Now we know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does His will, He hears him.
God sent His Son to save us!
John 3:16 (NKJV)
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Romans 5:8 (NKJV)
8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
You may say God could never forgive me, what I have done is unforgivable. I have good news for you,
Hebrews 8:12 (NKJV)
12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”
He forgives all your sins, past, present and future!
The good news is we have a mediator before God, and His name is Jesus Christ!
1 Timothy 2:5 (NKJV)
5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,
So how do we get right with God? You have to repent and turn around and change your life and become born again!
John 3:3 (NKJV)
3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
How do I do that you may ask, well you go to Romans in your Bible.
Romans 10:9-10 (NKJV)
9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
When you repent of all your sins and repeat this verse out loud and mean it with all your heart you are saved! That means your name is written in the Lambs Book of Life, and you will spend eternity in heaven with the Lord! But that is not all, it also means you are a child of God and He will bless you! You are born again and a new creation,
2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
You are now a new creation, the old you has gone away and the new you has begun.
So what does it mean to be a Christian, it means to be Christ like. It does not mean you become “religious”, it means you have a personal relationship with Jesus! The Holy Spirit will dwell within you and be that still small voice to guide you through the journey of life! You also become a disciple of Christ!
Is it easy being a Christian, not always, as now you have a bulls-eye on you back. The devil does not have you any more and he is not happy, you are a threat to him. But you now have the Lord to walk with you, to protect you, to give you strength, to heal you, to love you! We all go through trails in our lives, but with the Lord those trails bring you closer to Him and He gives you what you need to get through those trails. He even says this,
James 1:2-4 (NKJV)
2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
I know that is not easy to say that you will count it all joy when in the midst of trails, but Jesus will protect you and strengthen you so when you get into another trail, you will be able to withstand it.
He also gives us these promises of protection,
2 Thessalonians 3:3 (NKJV)
3 But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one.
Deuteronomy 31:6 (NKJV)
6 Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”
Isaiah 41:10 (NKJV)
10 Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’
Even though you will go through trails the Lord is with you every step of the way, He will give you a way even though you may not see a way. He will give you peace.
Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV)
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:13 (NKJV)
13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
And my personal favorite,
Psalm 46:1-4 (NKJV)
46 God is our refuge and strength,
A very present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear,
Even though the earth be removed,
And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
3 Though its waters roar and be troubled,
Though the mountains shake with its swelling.
Jesus loves you with a true agape love, a love the world cannot give you.
No one can ever take that love from you,
Romans 8:38-39 (NKJV)
38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
He will never fail you, he will always be with you. You will never be alone again! All His promises are yes and amen! He has plans for you!
Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
